What is pour painting?
Pour painting is an art form where you literally pour acrylic paint on to the canvas or surface. This painting technique results in a really cool marble or tie dye effect. You can create a pour painting piece on a canvas, a wooden surface, or even Christmas ornaments!

Steps to make DIY acrylic pour paint Christmas ornaments
Now that you have your supplies, let’s make some pour painted ornaments.
1. Choose your paint colors
The first step is to select your paint colors. You can use traditional Christmas colors like red and green, or any other color combo you like!
You can also make each ornament a little different and play around with how different colors look together.
I recommend not using more than 3-4 colors to avoid getting a brown mixture of colors. I also found that including white was a good way to break up the colors and have them mix well.
2. Pour paint into the ornament
The next step to make pour paint Christmas ornaments is to begin pouring your paint inside the ornament. Remove the metal tops of the ornaments and pour in the paint. Hold the ornaments at an angle and let the paint run down the inside of the ornament.
Continue turning the ornament and pouring paint down the inside. Depending on how many colors you want to use, alternate and adjust the order of colors as needed. Repeat this until the entire inside of the ornament is covered with paint.
You can also play around with different techniques like swirling the ornament with the paint inside to get a more marbled effect.
3. Get rid of excess paint and let the ornaments dry
Once you pour in your paint, you will have some excess paint inside the ornament. Turn the ornament upside down and let the excess paint drip out of the ornament. You can use a plastic cup, a cup lined with a plastic bag, or the plastic packaging that the ornaments came in to collect the extra paint.
Leave the ornaments hanging upside down to dry – I recommend leaving the ornaments for about a day to ensure they are fully dry on the inside.
Now your DIY acrylic paint pour Christmas ornaments are ready to be put on the tree.
Your ornaments are now ready to go. Put the metal tops back on the ornament and add a hook to put on your tree. Or if you are giving these as a gift – wrap it up!
