How to make this DIY Summer sign – a great popsicle stick craft for adults
Now that you have your supplies – here are the steps to make this DIY sign for Summer.
1. Cut out 6 popsicle shapes
The first step is to cut out six popsicle shapes from the various patterned paper you chose. You can use the same pattern for each one or do a variety like in the photo. If you make each one different, I recommend choosing summer-related prints in colors that complement each other.
To get each to look uniform, I recommend cutting out a pattern piece you can trace each time or using your first one as a guide when cutting the rest.
2. Spell out “Summer”
Next, you will spell out the word “Summer” using the sticker letters. Put one letter on each popsicle shape. Before sticking the letters down, I recommend playing around with the popsicle shapes to see what order you want the patterns to be in.
3. Glue the popsicle sticks
Next, glue the popsicle sticks to the back of the shapes you cut out. I recommend using hot glue because it’s sturdy, but you can use any adhesive of your choice – just make sure it works for both wood and paper.
4. Make the grass
To make the grass, you will glue green paper to the foam board so it is completely covered. Then, take strips that are a few inches wide and cut fringe to give it the look of individual grass strands. Glue these strips to the surrounding edges of the foam block.
5. Stick the popsicles in the foam
Now that the grass is complete, you will stick the popsicles into the foam. You should be able to push the popsicle stick through the paper into the foam so you won’t need to make any cuts into the foam.
6. Finishing touches
Finally, make any last touches you’d like. For example, I added a pair of sunglasses. To do this, you can trace the sunglasses and cut it out of cardstock. Then, use a black marker for the lenses. You could also do other summer related items like an umbrella, fruit, a beach ball, etc.
You can also arrange the sign so that the popsicles are even across the top or push some down further than others for more of a staggered look.
Now you’ve got a great DIY Summer sign!
