Thanksgiving is fast approaching so what better time to think about your holiday table setting. Whether you’re having a small get together or a large gathering, adding personalized DIY name cards will elevate your table. This craft tutorial will walk you through the basic steps to make this rustic Thanksgiving place card.

This handmade place card is very simple to make so even if you are a crafting beginner this craft won’t add any extra stress to setting your table for Thanksgiving.

Supplies needed to make these rustic handmade Thanksgiving place cards

Here are all of the supplies you will need to make these simple Thanksgiving name cards:

  • Brown card stock
  • Plaid ribbon
  • Gold clothespins
  • Gold permanent marker
  • Scissors

Now that you have your supplies, let’s make some rustic Thanksgiving name cards…

You can make these handmade Thanksgiving place cards in just a few simple steps.

1. Write out the name

The first step to make these DIY Thanksgiving place cards is to write out the name on to your cardstock paper using a gold permanent marker. Once you write out the name, cut around it with some extra room around the text.

Tip: Write the name before cutting out the paper to make sure you have enough room to write!

2. Cut out a strip of ribbon

The next step is to cut out a strip of ribbon. I recommend using a 2.5 inch width ribbon to make sure you have enough room for a border around the name. You can use the same pattern or color for every place card, or you can mix and match by having a mixture of patterns or colors around the table.

Use the size of the name you just cut out to eyeball how much ribbon you need to cut. Once cut, you should have all of the pieces to the name card and you’ll just have to assemble it.

3. Assemble the place card

The last step to make this handmade Thanksgiving name card is to assemble the pieces. Put the name card over the ribbon and secure with a clothespin. Once you have all of your place cards assembled, you are ready to add them to your Thanksgiving table!

Ways to put your own spin on these rustic handmade Thanksgiving place cards

You can use the same steps in this post to make Thanksgiving name cards, but put your own personal twist on them as well using these ideas:

  • Change up the ribbon pattern
  • Use a different colored cardstock
  • Write with a different colored marker
  • Select a clothespin in another color
  • Type and print out the name instead of handwriting it

Tip: Keep the rest of your table setting in mind! I selected a lot of gold items, like the marker and clothespin, for my DIY name cards because my plates and silverware have gold tones to compliment it. Think about how the rest of your table will look before choosing your colors and patterns.

Using DIY Thanksgiving place cards in your table setting is a great way to customize your table and impress your holiday guests!
