Now that you have your supplies, let’s get started!
1. Cut the colored cardstock
The first step to make this DIY Father’s Day card is to cut the colored cardstock. To recreate the card in the photo, you can use dark green but any color of your choice would work! This will be the suit jacket portion of the card.
Cut the cardstock into a 6.5″ x 8.5″ piece.
2. Cut out the jacket shape
Measure 1 inch from the left side and 4-5 inches from the bottom of the paper and make a mark using a pencil. Draw a line from the mark straight down to the bottom of the page. Then, align the ruler from the top left corner to your pencil mark and draw a diagonal line.
Using scissors, cut along the pencil line and erase any leftover pencil marks when you’re done.
3. Fold down the jacket collar
Once you’ve cut out the jacket shape, take the diagonal portion of the paper and fold it down to make the jacket’s collar.
4. Make the jacket pocket
The next step for this DIY Father’s Day card is to make the jacket pocket. Using a pencil, make a mark a few inches wide towards the bottom right of the jacket. Using an X-Acto knife, cut along the line you just made. Erase any stray pencil marks as needed.
5. Add the jacket to the base of the card
After finishing the jacket, take a white piece of 8.5″ x 11″ cardstock and fold it in half to make the base of the card. Then, using hot glue or your choice of adhesive, attach the jacket to the white card base by gluing the edges of the jacket.
You will still want to be able to access the pocket you made in the last step, so avoid putting glue over the entire back of the jacket.
6. Add the pocket square
Next, cut a piece of ribbon about 5-6 inches long. Fold it to make it look like a pocket square and insert it into the pocket you made in step 4. Use hot glue or other adhesive of choice to loosely secure the ribbon.
7. Add details with the white paint pen
Lastly, using the paint pen make lines along the edge of the jacket and color to give it some stitching detail. Add some detail around the pocket and your message such as, “Happy Father’s Day!”
That’s how to make this suit and pocket square Father’s Day Card idea!
Now all you have to do is write in your message on the inside of the card, and it’s ready to go.
