Easy DIY Fall Wreath to Decorate for the Season

This post is going to outline how to create your own DIY Fall wreath to decorate for the season.

Now that we are getting into the Fall season it’s time to break out the pumpkin candles and decorate your home to get into the Autumn spirit. I don’t know about you but I love all things Fall, so I can’t wait to jump into Fall crafts. This post is going to outline how to create your own DIY Fall wreath to decorate for the season.

This DIY Fall wreath is easy to make and will be a great addition to your front door during Fall. Making a Fall wreath at home is a great alternative to buying a wreath in a store. Opting for a DIY wreath for Fall can be less expensive and you’re able to give it a personal touch.

What supplies do you need to make a DIY Fall wreath?

To make this DIY Fall wreath, here are the supplies you need to recreate it:

  • Foam ring
  • Ribbon
  • Colored paper
  • Leaves and other Fall decor
  • Twine
  • Clothespins
  • Letters
  • Scissors
  • Hot glue gun and/or stapler

To really make this wreath your own, you can pick different ribbon, colored paper, etc. to make it your aesthetic.

How to make a DIY Fall wreath to decorate for the season

Let’s get into the simple steps to recreate this DIY Fall wreath.

1. Wrap the foam ring with ribbon

The first step to make this DIY Fall wreath is to wrap your foam base with ribbon. I chose a plaid ribbon in a Fall color palette, but you can pick a different ribbon to get a different look. I recommend choosing a wider ribbon because the thinner the ribbon, the more times you will need to wrap it around the base. The specific ribbon I used for example was 2.5 inches wide.

To wrap the ribbon around the ring, staple the end of the ribbon in one spot to hold it on there while you wrap. Then, wrap the ribbon around until the entire ring is covered. Cut the ribbon and staple that end to the foam ring to keep it in place.

Alternatively, if you don’t have a stapler on hand you can also use a hot glue gun to secure the ribbon as well.

2. Attach your Fall leaves and other items to the wreath

Now that the ring is covered with ribbon, the next step to create this DIY wreath for Fall is to attach the leaves and other Fall items to your wreath. I chose to use a squirrel figure and fake leaves. You could use real leaves if you’d like, however keep in mind that the wreath will probably not last as long. Using fake leaves allows you to reuse this DIY wreath for more Fall seasons to come.

Other ideas for items you can use alternatively would be pinecones, pumpkins, apples, etc.

Use a hot glue gun to attach the decorations. If you are using a squirrel or other item like that, I recommend gluing that to the wreath first and then doing the leaves last to give it the look of being tucked into the leaves.

3. Create your “FALL” letters

The next step to create this DIY Fall wreath is to create your letters that will spell out “FALL”. Cut out 4 small rectangles of colored paper. I chose to use 4 different Fall shades: Brown, Green, Yellow, and Orange. You could also use all one color or whatever color scheme fits your vibe best.

Next, add a letter to each rectangle so you can spell out “FALL”. I used silver sticker letters to give it a polished look and to save time. If preferred or you don’t have any letters on hand, you can also handwrite the letters.

4. Attach twine to the top of the wreath

Next, you will attach your twine or string to the top half of the wreath. Flip the wreath over so the back is facing up. Attach the twine so that it runs from the top left to the top right of the wreath. I found that stapling the twine to the wreath was most effective, but you could also use a hot glue gun if preferred.

5. Clip the letters to the twine

The last step to make this DIY Fall wreath is to use clothespins to clip the letters to the twine. Flip the wreath back over so that the front is facing up. Clip the letters one by one so that they spell out “FALL”. Because there are items on the wreath in the bottom right corner, I chose to make the letters slightly off center to the left to balance it out. However, you can arrange the letters whatever way looks best to you.

Now your DIY Fall wreath is ready to go!

In just 5 simple steps, you have created a festive DIY wreath for Fall. Now you can hang it up and enjoy it for the rest of the season!

How can you hang up the DIY Fall wreath?

There are several ways that you can hang up your DIY Fall wreath. To attach it to your door or on the wall of your home, I recommend using a command hook or nail to hang the wreath. You can also lean the wreath against a wall on a table or even in your kitchen counter – it just depends where you want to add some extra Fall spirit!
